Shocking Statistic

One of the first questions I get when I tell someone I had breast cancer is “Do you have a family history of breast cancer?”  I actually have one aunt who was diagnosed a couple years ago but that doesn’t actually count as a family history because she is not a “first degree relative”.  I heard this stat today which made me wonder why we have automatically assume someone has a family history when diagnosed.  Are you ready for this…

70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have NO family history!!!!!

That is why early detection, screenings and diligence on our part are so important.  We have to step it up ladies (men too).
